Chapter 29
A week has passed since I met with Lloyd at Wally’s to watch his friend manhandle the saxophone like they were lovers. It was beautiful. A sensory delight that caressed my skin with each passing note.
My tastes in music are quite eclectic, varying from Metal to Classical never passing through the musical vomit our society calls “Pop.”
At Boston’s oldest and most respected musical bar, there was no doubt the band would be good. I had not, however, expected the kind of transcendent experience that was laid out for me that night.
Lloyd sat next to me, tentatively reaching out every once in a while, to brush his fingers against the side of my thigh or bump shoulders when trying to be lighthearted. At one point I actually rolled my eyes before leaning in and telling him that his high school tactics at trying to get me to fuck him were more of a turn off than anything else.
Truth.
But the music…
I am fan of improvisations, the act a true qualifier of talent and passion. That, mixed with my errant thoughts of Troy and my impeding plans for a face-off, had my dick unsurprisingly rock hard. Of course, Lloyd noticed and without further question, took it as a personal compliment.
A month ago, before the sky fell on my head, it might have been. But last week sitting in that club? Not even a little bit. That didn’t mean I wasn’t entertaining thoughts of taking out my frustrations on his perfectly tight ass. Yes, I’m a selfish man. No, I give no apologies.
Get over it.
During the course of our evening, savoring the delicacy of a perfectly executed Chase, the back and forth solos of sax and trumpet, I was able to fill Lloyd in on my predicament. No, not the one in my too-tight pants, but rather my desire to seek out a well-deserved retribution. I needed to find Babu, and I needed to find him now.
When a sly grin raised Lloyd’s lips at both corners of his mouth, I knew I had his attention. When I explained my suspicions about Noelle possibly being the Monkey Whisperer, the evil glint in his eyes told me he was definitely interested. But when I leaned in and murmured all the ways I would repay him for his contribution, the hitch in his voice was a dead giveaway. Lloyd Ledbetter would do his magic. Then, I would do my voodoo.
Now, a week later, I am not so patiently waiting for the man in question to knock at my door and give me the details.
As a twenty-nine year old Junior Associate for Grant, Mills & Spencer, one of the biggest law firms in Boston, Lloyd is what they call a baby shark, a force of nature not to be ignored. When Lead Counsel needs dirt on the opposing party, Lloyd does the research, works with the pre-approved private investigator and stops at nothing until he finds that special little pearl that kills the enemy. Needless to say, his motto has always been that the end justifies the means.
